UPAYA SOSIALISASI DAN EDUKASI TENTANG PENCEGAHAN DINI DIABETES MELITUS PADA REMAJA DI SMAN 40 JAKARTA
Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin production or function. Adolescents are a vulnerable age group prone to adopting unhealthy lifestyle habits, which can increase their risk of developing DM, particularly type 2. Early education is essential to raise their knowledge and awareness about this disease. This community service activity aimed to provide socialization and education on early prevention of Diabetes Mellitus to 11th-grade students of SMA Negeri 40 Jakarta. The method used was an interactive counseling session accompanied by a pre-test and post-test to measure the participants’ improvement in understanding. The results showed an increase in the average correct score from 73.33% in the pre-test to 98.61% in the post-test. These results indicate that the socialization activity successfully improved adolescents’ knowledge of diabetes mellitus. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step in promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors and to become the foundation for sustainable health education within the school environment.
