REPRESENTASI POLEMIK ENERGI DALAM MEDIA DARING KOMPAS.COM DAN DETIK.COM: ANALISIS PEMBINGKAIAN ZHONGDANG PAN DAN GERALD M. KOSICKI PADA PEMBERITAAN “PERTAMAX OPLOSAN”
Abstract
Cases of fraud and abuse of power involving public interests and government institutions consistently attract significant public attention. The “Pertamax Adulteration” case and corruption allegations involving PT Pertamina cannot be separated from the consequences of media framing and public scrutiny. Therefore, this study examines the representation of energy polemics in the online media platforms Kompas.com and Detik.com in order to identify how representations of the “Pertamax Adulteration” case are constructed through media framing. This research combines the framing analysis approach of Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki with the Agenda Setting Theory of Maxwell McCombs, as well as Media Representation Theory proposed by Stuart Hall and John Fiske. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with constructive validity to analyze six selected news articles published between February 26, 2025, and March 21, 2025, based on thematic relevance to the “Pertamax Adulteration” issue and corruption allegations involving Pertamina. The findings reveal that through syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures, Kompas.com and Detik.com construct different framings of the energy polemic. Kompas.com tends to present a more analytical and reflective framing, whereas Detik.com emphasizes immediacy, dramatization, and emotional intensity in accordance with each platform’s characteristics and audience orientation. This study concludes that media representations of the energy polemic surrounding the “Pertamax Adulteration” case are constructed through framing practices carried out by Kompas.com and Detik.com via issue repetition, conflict emphasis, and the use of distinct symbols and diction that shape public perceptions regarding energy crises, transparency, and institutional legitimacy. Consequently, an issue that initially emerged as a technical matter evolved into a broader social discourse continuously reproduced within the digital media sphere.
